The high–speed serial bus (HSSB) enables the high–speed transfer of large amounts of data between a commercially available IBM PC or compatible personal computer and a CNC, by connecting them via a high–speed optical fiber. On the CNC, the HSSB interface board is installed in a minislot. On the personal computer, an appropriate interface board is installed.
The use of the HSSB requires an IBM PC/AT compatible computer or FANUC intelligent terminal. The machine tool builder or end user is required to procure and maintain the personal computer. To enable the use of the HSSB, Windows 95 or Windows NT must have been installed on the personal computer.
