Parameter 2064 — Deviation / Following Error Limit
- Parameter: 2064
- Function: Sets the maximum allowable position deviation (following error) for each axis
- Unit: Usually pulse units (encoder counts), not mm/in directly
- Scope: Per axis (e.g., 2064 for X, 2065 for Y, etc., depending on axis assignment)
If the actual position deviates from the commanded position more than this value, the control will generate alarms such as:
- Servo alarm (excess deviation / following error)
- Often seen during rapid moves, accel/decel, or mechanical load issues
🔍 When 2064 Becomes Relevant
You’ll typically run into this parameter when:
- Servo tuning is off
- Axis is binding mechanically
- Encoder feedback is noisy or unstable
- Ball screw / coupling wear exists
- Rapid acceleration is too aggressive
- After replacing:
- Servo amp
- Motor
- Encoder
- Control board
Important Caution
Increasing 2064 only masks the symptom.
If deviation is high, the root cause is usually:
- Mechanical drag
- Servo gain mismatch
- Encoder signal issue
- Power stage or motor torque problem
Raising it too much can:
- Reduce positioning accuracy
- Hide developing failures
- Cause crashes if feedback is lost
